In the Old Testament, there are times when God tells people to leave sinful places. They are told to leave and angels take care of the sin. Sodom and Gomorrah comes to mind. Jesus says to let the dead bury the dead.
It is a deadly kind of pride to think I can fight it all, that I can fight endlessly. Natural responses to clergy abuse, such as outrage, clearly aren’t healthy or sustainable in the long run. There is the risk of going down with the ship, of never getting on a life raft to head to a safer place.
