There is a saying that you get the treatment you are willing to tolerate. Publicizing the way the institutional church treats vulnerable human beings is the best way to get them to examine and reform their actions. Indeed the single greatest tool we have to promote/ensure accountability in our church is speaking out.
The printing press enabled the Reformation. Social media will be as transformative as the printing press. It is not an accident that people have grown in awareness of the Roman Catholic sex abuse crisis since the Boston Globe’s Spotlight team report in 2002 when the general population was first connecting on the internet.
We are at the beginning of the next reformation.
